NEW ALBUM RELEASED
So here it is, another release from Easter Islanders, my electronic music outfit. But wait! This time we have something of a hybrid, in that there is a lot of rock on this effort. No less than four tracks are pretty much all electric guitar and bass, ranging from indie rock to laid back bluesy / jazzy improvisations.
Of course, there’s still a lot of purely electronic tracks, starting off with the last single, and one of them (‘As Welcome Dew on Withered Souls’) features a prominent vocal from yours truly complete with harmony back ups. The interesting thing here is that this vocal performance is actually from thirty years ago - using the latest tech I was able to lift it from the grubby low-tech original and graft it onto a new musical backing.
Looking at the song titles, you might notice a lot of repetition. For example, there’s a track called ‘Usuality in Travaille’ which is a raucous guitar assault. But there’s also a track called ‘Travaille in Usuality,’ an upbeat electronic number, which although sounding completely different, is actually a reinterpretation of the same motifs. By the way, the weird title came from one of those Japanese t-shirts embalzoned with non-sensical foreign phrases.
There are also three tracks called ‘Hapless Shill Derision.’ This was originally a gargantuan ten-minute recording with three parts, but in the end I just paired it down to five minutes. However, I still liked the other bits, so I added them as short sixty-second intermissions.
Anyway, it’s a bit all over the place, but hey - the way I make albums does not revolve around grand concepts or unifying principles : I just keep making songs and every time ten or so are finished, that’s the next album.
