PHOTO FINDS FROM 2023 #2

The following shots are from Miyajima, the popular (crowded) island a ferry ride away from Hiroshima, famed for it’s “floating” red gate, historic temples and shrines, and wild deer roaming and pooping all over the place, sticking their heads in your bags if you’re not too careful.

Despite having been there umpteen times, my acute social phobia led me to explore a bit away from the main area, and to my amazement I found a pleasant temple I’d never been to before.

Here are some of the photographic fruits of that day, processed more than a year later because I’d forgotten about them.

Let’s get the most touristy shot out of the way : the famous “floating” tori gate guarding Itsukushima shrine.

Temple eaves - I don’t know why, but I’ve always been obsessed with them.

The Japanese equivalent of a gargoyle.

Temple hall.

The pagoda…and someone’s shed?

Temple guardian at the secluded location I discovered as I tried to evade the masses.

Buddhist deities with nice matching wooly hats.

More of ‘em…
