KYOTO - MARCH 2024 - #3

Let’s continue with my photographic journey around Kyoto last March…

After my visit to the Imperial Palace I went back to the hotel for a siesta, and to escape the freezing cold and sudden snow flurries. Later in the afternoon I ventured out again, this time to head west from the hotel to Toji, a temple famous for its pagoda. Although not one of my favourites, I hadn’t been there for a while, and I’d read that the treasure house was open for viewing (but not photographing). In addition, it was within walking distance, so no need to bother with pesky public transport.

The route from the hotel to Toji.

Here a few of my snaps from that afternoon….

The famous pagoda of Toji.

This view is tricky to shoot - you need a wide-angle lens - but you also need to monkey around with ‘keystoning’ in the processing software to counteract the ‘fish-eye’ effect of these type of lens. Not sure I did it very well here…

Toji temple building with the classic ceramic tiles and thatched roofing.

Peach blossom.

Lanterns under the eaves of a temple sub-building.

I took a different route back to the hotel and stopped off at a large mall to get some food, and discovered to my delight an IKEA pop-up store in there. Yes, IKEA may be totally vanilla to you, but to us folks who live in Hiroshima are deprived of such things. I spent ages there!
