CULTURE DIFFERENCE OR JUST LAZY BASTARDS?
One particularly annoying feature of the Japanese is their habits regarding getting off public transport.
Picture the scene: you have queued up nicely and are waiting to get on the monorail / train / metro.
The doors open. Nobody is waiting by the doors to get off, so you begin to enter.
Suddenly a veritable herd of people appear from somewhere inside and exit the train, forcing you to pull back onto the platform.
WTF?
This is what has just happened: the Japanese, being phenomenally lazy (contrary to popular belief) want to stay in their seats for as long as humanly possible and so only stand up to exit the train AFTER it has come to a halt and the doors have opened.
That’s right : there’s no conception of getting ready to exit by getting up and moving towards the doors when your station is coming up, even if you’re stuck in a seat back in the depths of the carriage and have to wade through a load of people to get out.
Because why bother to prepare for debarking when you can keep your lazy arse on your seat for another two minutes?
