Retro Retouch

Recent retro trends in photography don't only extend to cross-processed and grungeified Instagram filters or classic stylings of new mirrorless cameras, they have also entered the more 'pro' end.

Nik Software's stunning collection of image processing software plugins now includes Analog Efex Pro 2, which not only takes you back to the washed-out colours and lens dirt of the 70's, but also reproduces wet plate photography, a technique which dates from the beginnings of the medium in the mid nineteenth century.

It might seem a bit strange that we can now utilise computer power to recreate the world of glass plates, silver nitrate, burnt edges and light leaks, but the results are undeniably attractive, a perfect example of the successful melding of old and new.

I humbly offer up a few recently processed examples so that you can make up your own mind about the technique...
